As a weight loss Doctor in Philadelphia people are always asking me for weight loss tips that are quick and easy to do and will actually help them lose weight. So here is a list of my best 13 tips for weight loss.
Of course these tips do not take the place of working with a weight loss specialist but they will give you a jump start on your weight loss program.
Weight Loss Tip # 1
Eat your first meal of the day within the first 60 minutes of waking up.
Why should I eat my first meal within the first 60 minutes of waking up?
Because if you don’t your body’s chemistry goes into starvation mode and everything you eat will be stored as fat instead of being burned for fuel.
Weight Loss Tip # 2
Eat every 3 to 3.5 hours. This will keep your blood sugar levels and insulin levels balanced. This equals approximately 4 – 5 meals every day. This keeps your hunger and cravings under control so you can make the right food choices.
Weight Loss Tip # 3
You should have 3 main meals consisting of a few ounces of protein and lots of vegetables. This is your basic breakfast, lunch and dinner. You should also have 2 snacks consisting of fruit. You are allowed to eat any kind of fruit you want. Try to eat fresh fruits that are in season. Be creative!
Weight Loss Tip # 4
Stop eating 3 hours before you go to bed. Just imagine everything you eat after that saved as deposits of fat on your stomach, hips, buttocks and thighs and let’s not forget about adding more cottage cheese to your cellulite.
Weight Loss Tip # 5
Drink water. Try to drink 2 liters of water every day.
If you don’t drink enough water your kidneys and liver are not able to do their jobs efficiently. The kidney’s job is to get rid of waste products and one of your liver’s main jobs is to burn your stored fat for fuel and energy. If you do not drink enough water your liver has to do its jobs plus the kidney’s jobs. Therefore, you decrease your body’s natural fat burning abilities.
Weight Loss Tip # 6
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
The more fruit and vegetables you eat the skinnier you will be. Our bodies are designed to function best on raw fruits and raw vegetables and cooked vegetables. Fruits and vegetables provide the perfect nutrition and fuel for our bodies but the best thing is that are bodies will actually burn a ton of calories during the process of digesting the fruits and vegetables.
Weight Loss Tip # 7
Do your cardio fat burning exercise shortly after you wake up.
Working out for 30 – 60 minutes of cardio as soon as you wake up and on an empty stomach can cause you to burn 3 times as much fat as opposed to working out later in the day on a full stomach.
Weight Loss Tip # 8
Listen to music during your workout.
Listening to your favorite upbeat music can energize and motivate you to exercise longer and with more intensity. This increase in the amount of time you exercise and the higher intensity will burn more fat and calories. It is possible for people who listen to music while working out to lose twice as much weight as compared to those who do not listen to music while working out.
Weight Loss Tip # 9
Tap Your Feet Fidget and Stand
James Levine, MD, of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, discovered that people who tap their feet,, fidget, stand instead of sitting and overall move around a lot burn as much as 350 more calories a day than those who just sit still most of the time. That can add up to approximately 37 lbs a year.
Weight Loss Tip # 10
Get 9 Hours Sleep a Night
Sleep 9 hours every night. You can exercise all day long but if you do not get 9 hours sleep a night your body will not burn fat properly. Your body burns the fat while you are sleeping.
Weight Loss Tip # 11
Have a Drink as Soon as You Wake Up
First thing in the morning as soon as you wake up drink an eight ounce glass of water. If you like you can even add lemon juice to the water by squeezing either a half or a whole lemon into the glass of water.
This will help your body to get going because it won't be fighting through dehydration. Also, after you drink a glass of water you will not need to eat such a large breakfast. A glass of water wakes up all the digestive juices in your body and lubricates the body as well.
You can always have your morning coffee or tea, but be sure to have a glass of water afterwards. Caffeine dehydrates you and you want to ward off dehydration.
Weight Loss Tip # 12
Cream and Sugar With Your Coffee Means a Fatter You
Most people add large amounts of cream and sugar to their coffee. First of all cream has a ton of empty and unnecessary calories that so no purpose other than to make you fat. So try to either totally eliminate the cream from your coffee or just have a teaspoon of cream.
The sugar is a no - no! The sugar will spike your insulin levels in your body and almost everything you eat at that time will be stored as fat. Plus sugar can cause many serious health issues. So if you want to be thinner and healthier say no to sugar.
Weight Loss Tip # 13
Water and an Apple Means a Skinnier You
15 to 30 minutes before you're going to have a meal drink an 8 ounce glass of water and eat a nice fresh apple. The water will make sure that you are properly hydrated and that you are eating because you are hungry and not thirsty. The water and Apple combined together will fill your stomach so that when you are actually ready to sit down and have your meal - you will have less space in your stomach to fit more food. So you will eat less food. Less food in your tummy means less calories consumed.
